the story…

young gifted and broke is a pop up art show and creative consultancy giving space to creatives of color. our work is innovating and reframing how and where art is seen using wellness, social justice, community, and futurism as our tools. whether its curating art for local events, assisting artists in the development of their creative output, or our eponymous quarterly pop up art gallery, ygb is both a resource and a cultural hub aiming to make art, culture, and wellness more accessible. young gifted & broke isn’t necessarily about age, talent, or money—-its about using what you have right now to manifest what you want. its about honing the power of the most marginalized creatives, artists, and community members. its about using your time, talent, and resources wisely. since 2017 and beyond, we have been using our time, talent, and resources to curate vibes, support creatives, and build the social and creative spaces we want to see.

created by durham native, marcella camara, ygb began as her personal corner of the internet in the form of a blog where she wrote and learned about art, culture, wellness, and black girlhood. in 2017 it was re-birthed as a pop up art show housed at The Mothership near Downtown Durham. Since our rebirth we have worked with many brands and organizations including the Free Things in Life Festival, BeConnected, Transfer Co, Art of Cool, Spirithouse Inc, and Downtown Durham Inc.
